“Once in a Blue Moon” is tonight 08/31/2012! Time to Set Intentions!

It seems that this year is the year of the shake up and wake up in the cosmic arena. If you’ve ever heard the phrase “once in a blue moon” you’re in for a treat as August’s second full moon shines brightly in the sky. A blue moon happens every 2.7 years but if you’ve ever said “once in a blue moon” you’d like something to happen now is the time to put a miracle in motion by consciously setting your intentions.

Harness the energy of a full moon!

All full moons are packed with power and people handle this intense energy in different ways. It’s no coincidence (or surprise) that people go a little crazy during a full moon and this month there are two! In the past couple of days if you been feeling “buzzy”, there is an excitement or an unsettled feeling in your belly, you’ve had trouble sleeping or experienced vivid (or lucid) dreams, or you feel overwhelmed blame it on the energy of the full moon!

Just as the full moon lights up the night sky, so too it lights up and magnifies energies you’re working on releasing so you can move forward. If you take time to ground and set your intentions she will help you gain clarity by illuminating your path and direction.  If life has felt a little out of hand this past week, have no fear the energies will begin to calm and your feet will be solidly on the ground again after tonight. A full moon can turn your world upside down or give you a boost forward. It all depends on what you do with the energy.

Consciously set your intentions!

The power of a full moon is an exhilarating time to consciously let go of fear, set your intentions and put dreams in motion for the future. There is a magical quality about setting intentions on a full moon night. What you put in motion now is carried into the universe to start the process and give you clarity in which direction to go. What better time than under the bright, beautiful light of an event that only happens “once in a blue moon”? 🙂 Every civilization, culture and many religions have some type of full moon ritual. You too can create your very own personal ritual that honors the energy of the full moon and the energy within YOU.

Have fun with it! Go out and howl at it! Stand under the night sky and embrace the energy of the moon to empower you! Bring it down to help ground you. Use it to illuminate a path you haven’t noticed before. Set dreams in motion with the intention that whatever happens it’s for the highest good of all involved. If there’s something you’ve wanted to do “once in a blue moon” now is your chance! Bring the light of the moon into you to clear out any darkness. Once you’ve created a full moon ritual for yourself don’t forget that although the moon is usually full only once a month there is magic not just once but every time in a blue moon!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Spiritual Identity Crisis? It’s more common than you think….

Why is it we seem to like placing definitions on things? Maybe it’s simply to give us a common word to describe a person, place or thing or maybe it’s how we try to make sense of an ever-changing world. What was once acceptable is now no longer “PC” (politically correct) and so we change the words we use to define those things and hopefully clear any negative energy or judgement which somehow became attached.

Definitions have a tendency to put you into “group” and do not honor the unique person you are. When you strongly identify with a “group” you tend to take on the energy and it is possible to lose a bit of your unique divine energy which exists separate from that group in the process. It’s not a bad thing to be a part of a group but it’s important to know yourself and not let it overshadow who you are as spirit. If you begin to judge those not in the group that is a sign you’ve lost your space to the group energy!

Who, what or how do you identify yourself? Is it words you identify with? Do you identify with a word someone else placed upon you? Does a “group” define you or do you identify most strongly with the spiritual part of you?

As we make the shift from an egocentric, entitled, body based world into a more spiritual realm many people stand at a crossroad as they clear how they view themselves and live their lives. What once seemed important now takes a back seat as they rediscover spirit. When body based energies and lies are released everything is questioned and those energies coming out seemingly create a whirlwind of chaos and drama. Inner journeys are very much like the blooming of a rose. As they are nurtured and nourished by light, earth and rain they slowly open until finally in full bloom; but keep in mind as the rose blooms the delicate petals are exposed to the elements and they open layer by layer. 🙂

Awakening to yourself as an eternal spirit and blooming is not easy because as you do you must take responsibility and ownership of the energies you matched and what or who you identified with in the past. Having a spiritual identity crisis is you beginningto make separation with all that is NOT you. If you’ve taken on an identity based on someone else’s perception of you, when you finally awaken to who you really are it feels a bit like your life is unraveling one thread at a time. The good news is you slowly begin to see and know the truth.

Here’s some food for thought to meditate on: Maybe transformation isn’t really transformation at all. Maybe it’s more about you returning to the truth of who you are as an eternal spirit in a human body. Maybe all you need to do is recognize your own vibration and bring more of it in. Maybe the crisis isn’t a crisis. Maybe it’s your energy shining so brightly you find yourself fixated on all that is NOT you as it clears.  When you connect with your own spiritual essence and truly identify with spirit, life will still have its ups and downs but darkness cannot exist in the presence of light. Maybe all of this isn’t about transformation after all….maybe it’s about returning to spirit and living a spiritual life full of love, passion and the knowledge you are eternal.~Shine Your Light Debbie

Preserving Innocence in a Changing World

There is nothing like an innocent child looking at the world with wonder and delight. Of the many ‘rights of passage’ as we pass from the innocence of childhood into the responsibilities of adulthood, going away to overnight camp was one of my favorites.

I remember my Mom taking me to the bus and feeling excited and scared all at the same time. As the bus pulled away the excitement quickly took over and I was ready for an adventure into the unknown. How many of us remember the feeling of leaving home for the first time to parts unknown? In many ways this is not so far from the feelings we get now as we enter into a new relationship, business venture or something seemingly as simple as moving. Our lives will be forever changed yet at that moment we don’t know how.

Through the challenges of life we lose a bit of our innocence and no longer see the world through rose-colored glasses yet every time we have a major life change or are about to start a new adventure the innocence, excitement and fear returns. Of course we have the knowledge behind us (hopefully) and will use it but what if we could harness the wide-eyed wonder of a child and not leave it behind? What would happen if life was filled with hope like it was when we were children? The world is indeed changing but maybe it’s time we try to preserve a little of our own innocence for our children. They grow up all too fast these days.

Today I was delighted to receive pictures of my niece from the first day of her (first) trip to overnight camp. Now I’m pretty sure this wasn’t how camp was when I went! No one was taking pictures and video day in and day out to post on a private website for parents so they can see their little munchkins enjoying themselves. I’m not sure if I agree with it or not because it’s reminiscent of reality TV but it is a great way to keep the parents in the know about their kids. (I also don’t remember a salad bar option or zip lining, but I digress.) Maybe it’s also a small way of preserving the innocence and bringing us back to our own joy through the eyes of a child if only for a moment.

While looking at the photos I saw breaking news about a shooting at Texas A & M. Here I sat looking at pictures of a shining, happy 10-year-old and remembering how fun it was to be at camp with no responsibilities other than those of having fun and making s’mores around a campfire. I was quickly reminded of a world where a select few think it’s ok to shoot and kill another human being. What happened to the innocence and joy they were born with? Anger and hate begets anger and hate. Fighting for peace is simply an oxymoron and there are too many with an angry agenda. There are people in this world who have been through horrific experiences yet they find peace within themselves and go on to do amazing, loving and peaceful acts. After their trials and tribulations they somehow find a way to reconnect with the beauty of life. They inspire us and honor themselves and us by living a loving life.

The world around us is changing so rapidly it’s hard to keep up and its time we put out into the world the change we’d like to see. Not through fighting, politics and debate based on lies and untruths but through the thing we know more intimately than anything else in the world; Our own energy vibration. Think about how you spend your day and take a hard look at the vibration you are emitting into the universe. Is it positive? Negative? Happy? Sad? You may be in for an awakening if you listen to the words you speak and how you react to things around you.

Maybe it’s time to bring back a little innocence and simple joy to our lives. When was the last time you sat around a campfire making s’mores and singing Kumbaya (see video below) or laying in the grass looking at the clouds as they form castles in the sky? When was the last time you looked at the mountains or trees and simply breathed in their beauty? Maybe it’s time to reconnect with the joy and innocence that is still a part of you….Imagine what the world would be like if we all did this every once an a while.~Shine Your Light Debbie

Are you a Victim of Self Sabotage?

“Self sabotage, the act of undermining your own wellness, happiness, and success, whether conscious or not, is you taking on the role of punisher, abuser, or bully…against yourself.”~Stephanie Quilao

Have you ever said something and regretted it merely seconds after it came out of your mouth? Have you found yourself really close to successfully attaining a long awaited goal then doing something to negate everything you’ve done to get there? Are you angry about decisions made in the past but not changing those decisions to reflect who you are now? Are amazing things happening in your life but your focus is on all that’s NOT happening? If so, you may be a victim of self sabotage!

I recently experienced all the above on my birthday….

The day before (and on) my birthday I started receiving birthday wishes and love from friends and clients all over the world. I was delighted beyond words to read every single private message, post, text, and email in addition to the phone calls. My heart was filled with happiness and as one friend put it I was having a “global birthday party”! I was surrounded by a beautifully woven blanket of love and felt the energy in every fiber of my being when suddenly my thoughts turned to those who I WANTED to get messages from but didn’t. I started to get angry that I was always there for them yet they couldn’t take the time to say happy birthday.

For a moment the hundreds of loving messages were negated by simply NOT hearing from two people. I quickly realized that the actions, or in this case inactions, of others controlled what I was having! I quickly let go of those thoughts and got my space back but questions still remained; How many times did I push away love or friendship because of some crazy thought that if it wasn’t from this one or that one that I wasn’t loved? How many times have I lowered my having-ness to match those who couldn’t have ME. (Self sabotage!) It was only a moment but I thank God for awareness and finally being able to see it!

Once I saw this I was able to return to my ‘happy space’ and went off to my party. I decided that those who showed up were the ones who were supposed to be there and I couldn’t wait to celebrate! The surprises kept coming! A dear friend who I wasn’t expecting showed up and I received a text from a lovely man who, when he found out it was my birthday, dropped everything to drive (over an hour) into the city and come to my party. I was seriously bursting with joy! Then it happened again… In all my joy, overwhelmed with love, I started joking around and said something that was rude, insensitive and judgemental.

Although it was not my intention to invalidate something that means a lot to someone I lost my space and did just that. I immediately tried to ‘fix’ what I had said but the more I tried the deeper the hole became. I am blessed to have forgiving, loving people in my life including the person whom I inadvertently, unintentionally and uncharacteristically spoke less than nice words to. In retrospect I couldn’t “have” what was being openly offered and allowed an energy to come through me. How many times had I done this before? Why would I say or be that way? In my human-ness I allowed fear and judgement to seep into my words for no reason at all other than I had lost my space and could not HAVE all the love that surrounded me.

Self sabotage comes in many forms. I see it happening with friends, members in my Weight Watchers® meetings, my clients and myself. What leads to any sort of self sabotage is a lack of having-ness (the ability to embrace and have something) and/or not being able to clear an energy or picture you are holding on to from the past. When you lose your space to an energy or picture all kinds of things come through including judgement, pushing people away or sabotaging your success because you can’t have it. How many times have you said or done something and afterwards wondered why? Instead of asking ‘why’ go within to find the underlying cause. It’s a good bet you’ll find the answer and it may not be what you think!

Although I spent the week beating myself up for being less than compassionate in a mere few sentences I realized that what happened was a blessing in disguise. It showed me I still have a lot to work on this lifetime. It showed me that I’m not only human but I’m perfectly perfect in my IMperfection. It also illuminated those places where I was stuck in a judgement picture and lacking having-ness.

Everything we do or say has an impact on our growth. Be aware of the areas you are sabotaging yourself whether it be a job change, your relationships or your dreams. If you are no longer in alignment with the choices you’ve made in the past which affect you today, it’s perfectly OK to change course, heal and open your eyes to those places where you have gotten in your own way. Stop the madness of self sabotage! Awaken, let go, embrace and raise your having-ness for a beautiful life! If you can have it, the sky’s the limit!~Shine Your Light Debbie
